Guide
How to use fragrance oils
Everything you need to get the most from your oils, in five minutes.
How to apply a fragrance oil
- Apply to clean, moisturised skin. Oils last longer on skin that isn’t dry.
- Dab one or two drops on pulse points: wrists, the sides of the neck and behind the ears.
- Don’t rub your wrists together. It crushes the top notes.
- Want more trail? Add one dab to your collar or scarf. Test on a hidden spot first, as oils can mark some fabrics.
- For a long evening, reapply once.
Top, heart and base notes
Every fragrance changes on your skin over the day:
- Top notes (first 10–15 minutes): citrus, fresh and light notes that greet you first.
- Heart notes (from about 30 minutes): florals, spices and fruits that form the character of the scent.
- Base notes (hours later): woods, amber, musk, vanilla and oud that stay on the skin longest.
Every product page shows how its scent evolves, so you know what to expect after the first few minutes.
Choosing a scent by season and occasion
| When | Try | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Summer & daytime | Fresh, citrus, aquatic, light florals | They stay clean and soft in the heat. |
| Office | Clean musks, light woods, soft florals | Noticeable up close, never overpowering. |
| Evenings & events | Amber, oud, vanilla, rich florals | Warm, deeper scents that last into the night. |
| Winter | Spice, leather, tobacco, gourmand | Cold air softens scent; richer notes carry better. |
| Weddings & Eid | Oud, rose, saffron, attars | Traditional, celebratory and long-lasting. |
Oil or spray?
| Compare | Fragrance oil | Alcohol spray |
|---|---|---|
| Base | Oil, no alcohol | Mostly alcohol |
| On skin | Close and steady | Big opening, fades sooner |
| How much | 1–2 dabs | Several sprays |
| Best for | Long wear, sensitive noses, hot weather | Big projection for a short time |

How to store your oils
- Keep the cap tightly closed.
- Store away from sunlight and heat. Don’t leave bottles in a hot car.
- A cupboard or drawer is ideal.
Layering tips
Oils layer well. Try one clean base (musk or sandalwood) with a stronger top (rose, oud or citrus). Apply the base first, then the second oil on top.
Making your own perfume spray
Many customers mix our oils with perfumer’s alcohol to make a spray. As a rough guide:
- Eau de toilette: about 5–15% oil
- Eau de parfum: about 15–20% oil
- Parfum / extrait: about 20–30% oil
Let the mix rest for a week or two before use. Making larger batches? See wholesale.
How to make your scent last longer
- Moisturise first: oil holds better on hydrated skin.
- Apply right after a shower, when pores are open and skin is warm.
- Layer a musk or amber oil underneath a lighter scent.
- Dab, don’t rub. Rubbing breaks down the top notes.
- Keep a small roll-on with you to refresh in the afternoon.
Other ways to use fragrance oils
- Home: add 10–15 drops to a diffuser, or a few drops to a cotton ball in your wardrobe.
- Laundry: a few drops on a cloth in the dryer, or on a handkerchief.
- Candles & soap: use our candle oils and soap fragrances, made for heat and soap bases.
A simple 50ml eau de parfum recipe
- Pour 10ml of fragrance oil into a clean 50ml spray bottle (one oil, or a mix of two or three).
- Top up with 40ml of perfumer’s alcohol.
- Close, shake and leave in a cool, dark cupboard for 1–2 weeks. Shake every few days.
- Test on skin. Too strong? Add a little alcohol. Too light? Add a little oil next time.
